Precious Light

Produced for David Mach RA

The Brief

Precious Light was an exhibition at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh exploring the themes and legacy of the King James Bible in the year of its 400th anniversary.

Central to the project was the publication of an artist’s book, containing reproductions of David Mach’s works from the exhibition, essays on the King James Bible and its legacy in culture, language and art alongside text from the King James Bible itself.

The Challenge

Collaborative from the start we worked with the artist David Mach and the designer, Kate Stephens, to create the framework for the books, biblical stories, presented in the same order as in the Bible. The imposition and binding was a particular challenge with multiple throw-outs bound into the texts to accommodate the many larger collages.

Project Outline

One, substantial softback book. Printed in full colour utilising integrated cold foils within the texts for better effect of the metals used in the manufacture of the work. Along with the books, we made postcards, greeting cards, bookmarks, posters, limited edition prints and a second, collaborative book of the crucification.
